Emotional Support Book
A comfort book you return to repeatedly, recommended constantly, and collect every edition on. Mine is Lights Out by Navessa Allen.
Book Goblin
Someone who buys books faster than they can read them.
Book Dragon
Someone who hoards book and protects them like shiny irreplaceable objects.
Tabbing
Using sticky notes and tabs to mark important scenes or things you want to remember.
Annotating
Highlighting, tabbing, and writing in books to analyze them down to the very bones. I personally prefer using my kindle for this and then copying the information into a doc.
Palette Cleanser
A light read after an emotional devastation or a long series you’ve been invested in since day one. You will definitely need something easy to read after saying goodbye to a long term shadow daddy.
Fade to Black
A term used in romance books when things start to get spicy but instead of an explicit scene it cuts away, leaving the rest to play out in your imagination.
Open Door
Explicit scenes occur on page but the spice level can range from mild to extremely high.
Closed Door
Explicit scenes are off-page, similar to fade to black but usually discusses less than the fade to black scenario.
Spice
Readers use spice to describe the tension and passion between characters and the explicit scenes in a book. Can vary from no spice, moderate, high and extremely high leaning into smut.
Morally Gray
Not a hero. Maybe a villain. But we don’t really care. As long as he be kickin ass, saving the FMC and speaks with a filthy mouth, that’s all we care about.
Shadow Daddy
A powerful, dangerous, dark-haired fantasy man that can wield shadows and is usually tattooed
Book Boyfriend
A fictional man who has ruined your standards for real men.
Reading Slump
No description sounds good and very book feels too boring or too complicated for your brain. Usually occurs after a great read or after not reading for awhile.
Book Hangover
The inability to move on after a great book. A reading hangover usually lasts a few days until you find your next read but can turn into a reading slump if you can’t find anything that piques your interest.
